Speed Demon

Exhibition: Speed Demon – Museum London

Speed Demon

July 9th, 2011 to September 25th, 2011
Museum London: Ivey North and Centre Galleries

Drawing upon the Italian Futurist manifesto “that the world’s magnificence has been enriched by a new beauty: the beauty of speed” this exhibition is inspired by the ever quickening pace of contemporary life.

Speed Demon includes a wide array of works that confront varied notions of speed and power through frenzied gestural paintings created in a single studio session, accelerating and revving video and dizzying landscapes.

An exploration of the benefits and drawbacks of speed, some works in the exhibition revel in the beauty and power of the engine while others, dark and foreboding, raise issues of particular import to contemporary society.

The exhibition includes works by Don Bonham, Matthew Carver, Murray Favro, Steven Laurie, Ron Martin, Royden Rabinowitch, John Scott, Masashi Iwasaki & Tadasu Takamine and features several works from the Museum’s permanent collection.
